How can I remove the EndNote citations and reference list from my dissertation so I can get a correct word count?

To do this you need to create a new style within EndNote. Click Edit and choose Output Style, then select New Style… from the list. A blank template will open, leave all the fields blank and click File – Save as. In the dialogue box give the style a new name, e.g. Word count, and click Save. The new style will appear in your list and whenever you need to do a word count select that style and the citations and reference list will be removed. You can then change the style back to the original one.
