Students and staff of Northumbria University may be able to access libraries of other universities by applying for membership of the SCONUL Access Scheme.

SCONUL is a co-operative venture between most of the higher education libraries in the UK and Ireland. The Access Scheme enables staff, research students, full-time postgraduates, part time, distance learning and placement students to borrow material from other libraries.

Undergraduate students can apply for reference-only access to other institutions, which can be useful during vacations or when undertaking research for dissertations.

You should check the website of any library that you wish to visit, for details of opening hours and any restrictions on access that may be in place - some Universities do not let external visitors use their libraries during peak exam times, for example, or when access to spaces may be reduced due to building works.
